Something that looks authentically beautiful and unparalleled.
Something, that has a gilded texture, a raw appeal and an unadulterated hue.
Ladies and gentlemen, A story of obsession. A story of leather. A story of being born in leather.
Who cares about crinoline or parasols today? Or neons or peplum? These are trends. They come and go, fading away from the corner of our eyes. But leather. Oh! Leather’s a class in itself. It’s intense pleasure. It’s like another skin on my skin. In my boudoir. I tend to go hell for leather with everything.
We are talking about some serious sophistication here. Well, not just that. About the rough-&-tough attitude as well. A thing of the royals and the cowboys both. Something that matches with dust as much as it does with pearls. I located PortsideCafe at the Collonnade in the Leela Palaces, Bangalore. A concept by Bobby Aggarwal, who also happens to design these skilfully crafted furniture & accessories, this studio is a live model of my musings here!
Bobby draws inspiration from the Cowboy classics to Agatha Christie’s mysterious characters with their heavy luggage on the Orient Express. From an innovative shelved-sofa to an A-class bar and chest storage, he designs exquisite leather and wood items involving various leather-craft techniques.
“LEATHER, TO ME IS AN AMAZING RAW MATERIAL. I LOVE WORKING WITH THE MARKS AND BLEMISHES THAT ADD TO THE INDIVIDUAL CHARACTER OF EACH PIECE I MAKE.” Bobby Aggarwal
A table-top wearing a beautiful water-coloured floral outfit in leather or a chess-set boxed in the hide are state-of-the-art pieces. How fancy would a folding screen with an illuminating texture in wood in the middle of the room look? Hard to imagine such beauty in reality, I know!
These drop dead gorgeous pieces set a benchmark in product design and the use of leather. I think I am fine to go hell for leather!
